Recently, an American friend of mine told me that many people call her with by term. She said it was all right for her as she’s lived here long enough to understand us. But she says that it might be offensive for some to be called “Farang”. Farang is a term derived from foreign/ foreigner. To them being a foreigner equals being alienated or an outsider. They would appreciate specific terms referring to nationalities like an American, British or Dutch instead.

I personally think that Thai people just get used to with the word.
They keep calling foreigners without consideration.
Some of foreigners may feel that they are being racist.
We tend to use it from our habitude.
Next time I myself will try to avoid using this term.

I think that everyone wants to have the unique and also loves their own nations.
So that noone like when others call by the word that can use for every people who are not the citizen of the country that you are.
It seems to be racist sometimes.
By the way, I think that almost Thai people use the word "farang" by familiarity.
They don't think about foriegner's feeling toward this word.
The best way is to avoid using it.

Maybe it is because Thai people don't know what that really means or comes from.
For Thai, "Farang" is used when they see someone who look different from them.
They don't know it can be racism.
They just call Farang Farang! sometimes it is for fun too.

For some people, this might be the serious problem. When we call white people,
Farang, as same as when we call the blacks,Niggas. I'm the one who always
calls the whites that way, but none of them feel angry at me, or I don't know they
might get mad inside. So, if some of them are not appreciated when being called,Farang.
It's better to avoid saying that.

I think they don't know the real meaning of this word.
Thai people use this word represent foreigner.
